Second Best Poster Award [3rd National Phycological Society Symposium]

The student poster based on the thesis works of Chemical Engineering students: Armando Morillo Jr., Mark Jason Redondo, and Nickson Jao place second in the scientific poster contest during the 3rd National Phycological Symposium and Scientific Meeting held on Aug 6, 2010 at the Drilon Hall, SEARCA, College, Laguna.

The winning entry is entitled “Propagation of Chlorella vulgariz Belj. (Cv1) in an externally-illuminated vertical column draft-tube photobioreactor for biomass propagation”. The members of the thesis advisory committee are: Prof. Rex B. Demafelis (ChE-CEAT), Prof. June Owen Nacorda and Milagros Martinez-Goss (IBS-CAS).


UPLB ChE students bagged 1st place in Inter-U quiz show

Four (4) Chemical Engineering students brought honor to UPLB by winning in the Inter University Chemical Engineering Quiz Contest held on August 28 at UP NISMED Auditorium UP Diliman. The winning team was composed of Jomuel Velandres, Mart Benson Castillo, Brent Owen Pastor and Luis Felipe Lopez.

The UPLB delegation was led by Eng’r Maria Cristina V. Mahilum, the faculty coach. The student delegation also included other 45 Chem Eng’g students from different universities in the Philippines. This was sponsored by the UP Chemical Engineering Society (KEM) based in UP Diliman.


UPLB ChE ONCE AGAIN GETS TOP SPOT IN BOARD EXAM

The University was once again recognized as the top performing school, with 15 or more examinees, in the recent licensure examination for chemical engineers held last April 20 to 22. In the said exam, UPLB garnered a passing rate of 83% wherein 24 out of 29 examinees passed, compared to the national passing rate of 45.9% (151 out of 329). Read the rest of this entry »
