To all UPLB Consituents:

We are experiencing Internet connection problem these past days. Our
Internet Service Provider, Prime Communications, said that the problem
is the over-utilization of our subscribed 8Mbps bandwidth. Because of
this, we started blocking known high-bandwidth sites like Video
Streaming Web Sites and Social Networking Sites during office hours,
i.e. 8-12, 1-5. If you need to access a blocked website for official
use, please contact ITC at 536-2886 or VoIP# 100, or email us at
itc@uplb.edu.ph or tech@uplb.edu.ph.

Prof. Jewel Capunitan will leave this September as she was accepted at the Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas to pursue her doctorate degree.

The paper entitled “Decolorization and Chemical Oxygen Demand Reduction of Sugar Refinery Spent Ion-Exchange-Process Effluent by Electrochemical Treatment Method” by Prof. Jewel Capunitan, Dr. Catalino Alfafara, Dr. Veronica Migo, Dr. Jovita Movillon, Dr. Erlinda Dizon and Dr. Masatoshi Matsumura was awarded as one of the Outstanding Scientific Papers by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in the concluded 31st Annual Scientific Meeting held on July 9, 2009 at the Manila Hotel. The paper was published in the international journal, the Philippine Agricultural Scientist (PAS, ISSN 0031-7454), Vol. 91 No. 4 (December 2008).
