ITC Announcement: Blocking of High Bandwidth Websites

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE UPLB-INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CENTER

We would like to inform you that starting January 25, 2010, Monday, ITC will be imposing a strict regulation regarding accessing websites with high bandwidth consumption during office hours (8:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00). The purpose of this regulation is to ensure fair and efficient use of the Internet bandwidth inside the university. With this, ITC has identified 93 high-bandwidth sites. Some of which are the following:

Facebook.com
Plurk.com
Youtube.com
Multiply.com
Friendster.com
and other file sharing and streaming sites

Accessing high-bandwidth sites is still possible provided that a letter of request addressed to the ITC OIC Director would be submitted. The letter should indicate the following information:

Your Office/Unit
Website(s) to access
Nature/Purpose of use/access
Day(s) and Time(s) of access
Duration of access
