As a glorious fireworks display seared the starless sky, a multitude of students, faculty and staff began the Loyalty Day commemoration of UPLB’s one – hundredth year as an academic institution.
On the eve of September 22, 2009, in a symbolic ceremony signifying the university’s role as a beacon of academic excellence and public service, representatives of each college marched to the center of Freedom Park armed with torches. The program started with a speech from UP President Emerlinda Roman, a UPLB alumnus. This was followed by a message from UPLB Chancellor Luis Velasco. Other highlights of the event were the lighting of the cauldrons for each college, the red – carpet torch relay of more than a hundred UPLB alumni, and a mini – concert performed by the UPLB Choral Ensemble and UPLB Centennial Performers.
